Will MaceCaptain Will Mace, from Herefordshire, was commissioned into the Scots Guards in 1998. He joined his battalion in Northern Island, where he spent the best part of a year, before going to serve in Germany with the Irish Guards. His next posting was to London for a spell of ceremonial duties including the Remembrance day parade at the Cenotaph.
He joined the expedition after meeting the skipper at lunch at St James Palace and volunteering to fill a vacant berth. His role on the expedition is primarily as a sailor and is he is also responsible for the victualling on board the John Laing. Previous sailing experience includes an Atlantic crossing last year and extensive cruising in the Caribbean and Mediterranean.
His interests include skiing and ski mountaineering and he completed the Haute route at Easter 2001.
